**Learning @ Logic** Part 3 of missing teeth

Removable dentures

As the name suggests, a removable denture is a removable dental appliance designed to replace missing teeth and allows patients to remove and insert when required without professional help. There are two types; full is used when all the teeth are missing and partial when one or more teeth are missing.

Impressions are first taken of your teeth and sent away to a specialist laboratory technician to create the denture with porcelain, acrylic or cast metal. The denture is then returned to the dental clinic and an appointment is made for fitting and adjustment (if needed) of the denture.

Dentures SHOULD be removed before going to sleep each night to give your mouth a chance to rest, and cleaned using a soft toothbrush and soapy water or denture paste. Toothpaste is not recommended. The gums, tongue and palate should also be brushed using a soft toothbrush and standard toothpaste to help remove plaque and stimulate circulation.
