Are you aware that you are grinding your teeth? Do you sometimes wake up with head or jaw muscle aches? Do the edges of your teeth appear flattened/serrated?

These are all signs of bruxism, which is the habit of grinding/clenching your teeth while awake or asleep. It is believed that half the community suffers from bruxism, and 1 in 20 are severely affected by it.

The cause of bruxism includes stress, concentration, incorrect tooth alignment and physical effort. Possible treatments include removing the causing factors such as stress or wearing an occlusal splint. An occlusal splint is basically a smaller version of a mouth guard worn while you sleep to protect the teeth from being worn down.

If you know you grind your teeth or suffer from any of these symptoms, we can help you. You can book an appointment online, or call us on (03) 9735 5667
